Reviewing Proposals

Hi All,

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

By now, you should have received an invite to a Dropbox folder for proposal reviews. In that folder, you will find all the proposals to be reviewed by your study section as well as a Word document with primary reviewer assignments.

What you need to do now is (1) read all eight proposals so that you can participate in discussions and form opinions about them and (2) study in detail (including reading relevant literature) the two proposals to which you are assigned as primary reviewer so that you are ready to write good reviews and also present the proposals to the group.

On Tuesday in class, Brad and I will discuss the process of writing reviews. Those reviews will be due on Wednesday night.

Enjoy -- this is the fun part, reading everyone else's ideas!

5.54 Tomorrow Tuesday Nov. 17

Hi All,

Hope everyone had a great weekend with lots of proposal writing progress! Tomorrow, we will get started promptly at 8:30 AM with Samantha's presentation on Frances Arnold (not 8:35 AM). Our guest lecturer from Novartis will present starting at 8:50 AM.

Brad and I have had great and really enjoyable conversations with a number of you about your proposals. As noted in lecture, we are both available for appointments through the proposal due date to discuss proposal construction and your ideas, just email for a time.

5.54 Example Proposal Uploaded to Dropbox

Dear Class,

With the permission of a prior 5.54 student, I am posting an example 5.54 proposal in the Dropbox. This is a proposal that received good peer reviews and was well-graded, in a prior iteration of 5.54. It is not in exactly the format we are looking for this year, but it is close. I believe scanning it will help you as you work on creating your own proposal over the next ten days. Thanks,
