Information:

"Introduction to Making" (15.351) is a highly immersive, hands-on introductory course for undergraduate and graduate students in any course of study. If you are curious about how to make physical things, make them work and integrate them with electronics/software, you've come to the right place.

You will gain knowledge of common fabrication techniques and skill in using them - 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, electronics, Arduino programming and more. You will then use this knowledge/skill in work on a team project that leads up to the "Demo Day Grand Challenge", where you will compete for the coolest prototype award. The class uses lectures when necessary/best, but we also integrate fun activities that require using knowledge and skill, i.e. Mens et Manus:

This class is by application only. CLICK HERE TO APPLY.

[URGENT] Final Submissions and Presentation Logistics

Hi everyone,

Please read through the entirety of this message.
Please be aware of the following deadlines:
+ Sunday 7PM: Video of working prototype due. Submit by sending an email to itm-tas-f2017@mit.edu with subject line "ITM - [Team Name] Prototype Video".
+ Monday 7PM: Prototype to be impounded (turned in for storage) at Protoworks
+ Tuesday 1PM: Design Journals are due. NOTE - if your journal is an online or digital journal, please bring physical copies of all drawings in addition to sending the updated link to itm-tas-f2017@mit.edu with the subject line "ITM - [Team Name] Design Journal"

In preparation for the final class, more times will be available for teams to work in Protoworks. Times on Friday and Saturday have been added and times on Sunday will be posted by Saturday morning. Please sign up for slots at this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15JRCH3fa0p2QUjOt7URRnDvqiIHBqCW8DdEw_JNDHhA/edit?usp=sharing. Protoworks will also be open from 12:30PM until 1PM on Tuesday to grab your prototype before class. All teams are responsible for bringing their prototype to class.
On the final day of class, each team will give a short (2 min) presentation/demo and have a 3 minute Q&A session. All teams should be prepared to answer questions about their prototype and their process (e.g. What technologies were used? How was it valuable? Why decisions were made? What were the biggest challenges?). We will be starting promptly at 1:10PM so please be on time. Five groups will present, we will break to complete course evaluations, then finish with the final five groups. Time will be strictly enforced and food will be provided. For the presentations, no slides will be allowed. Each team will have a title slide with the prototype video from Sunday included as a backup if the demo experiences difficulties. Please ensure your 2 minute presentations focuses on the demonstration and accurately presents your goals and successes for the project.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at itm-tas-f2017@mit.edu ASAP. We're excited to see you present your final projects!

In the spirit of making,
The Intro to Making Staff
