Office hours and notes on the Jordan normal form

2. I've uploaded some notes about the Jordan Normal form in the Materials Section of Stellar. In there you find the last few theorems we have proven in class and also a couple of examples where the Jordan normal form is worked out step by step. Since the class presentation diverged a little bit from the textbook I hope this is useful.
All the best, Georg

Final Practice and More
Here a couple of announcements regarding the Final:
1. The final will take place in 4-231 (the usual class room) at
Wednesday, December 20, 9:00 to
12:00 PM
2. The practice problems to the final are now
posted in the Material section of Stellar.
What you find there are problems of the kind you can expect in the final. Some are harder, some are easier. Also, a given type of problem might appear several times or you are asked to do a computation in several cases -- this is for practice.
This practice splits into two parts: The first part which is directly relevant, and the second which is additional study material. Make sure to be on top of the questions asked in the first part.
3. Solutions to the first part of the practice problems will be
posted the weekend before the final. There will be no solutions to
the second part, but you come to office hours and the TAs or I will
explain.
4. Regarding topics, everything we did can come up in the final. I
updated the Syllabus so you can take a look what we have done. In
particular, the topics from this and next week might come up,
e.g.:
Minimal polynomials, Caley-Hamilton, Generalized eigenspaces,
Jordan normal form (next week).
Again, the practice gives a good idea.
5. What happens regarding office hours in the final week is to be
determined. I'll keep you posted.
Let me know if you have questions. All the best and good study,
Georg
