4.130 Arch Des Theory & Methods
Fall 2017
Instructor: Jennifer W Leung
TA: James Robert Addison
Lecture: T9-11 (5-216)
Information:
This seminar studies architectural pedagogy and practice as the
site and context for design as an
interdisciplinary technique to examine material sciences, media
arts and technology, cultural studies,
computation and emerging fabrication protocols. It provides
in-depth, theoretical grounding to the notions
of 'experiment,' ‘intelligence,’ and ‘activism’ in
architecture, and to the consideration of contemporary
design and performative methodologies, while encouraging
speculation on the responsibilities of
emerging design thinking. The seminar seeks to rehearse
opportunities to redefine applied research
through student participation in the pedagogical and practical
imaginaries. In so doing we will exchange
the utopia of our predecessors for the lesson and business plans of
tomorrow.
