Chemistry grades on WEBSIS

Your chemistry grades should be made available via WEBSIS by December 27th.  None of the chemistry staff will be able to give you your grade via email.

If you are a freshman, your grade will be a “P” for pass or there will be no credit (if you did not pass the class). To find out your hidden grade, you must meet with your freshmen advisor during IAP. This is an opportunity to review your term with your advisor.

If you would like to see your final exam in chemistry, you will need to make an appointment with Patti Christie (patti@mit.edu) starting Monday January 22nd. You will have until Friday February 8th to see your exam.

Information about the Third exam on Wednesday November 29th

Exam 3 for 5.112 is scheduled for Wednesday November 29th during class time (11:05 am to 11:55 am).

All of the answer keys for the written problem sets are posted on the stellar page, under the assignments page and on the stellar gradebook page.

On the Stellar Exam page under Exam #3 specific:

·            The instructions for the exam 3 are posted (executive summary – you are taking the exam 3 in the same place as exams 1 and 2)

·            There are review sheets posted at the stellar exam page.

·            The TAs are running extra office hours on Monday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon and evening. Check the stellar page for office hours.

·            There is one practice exam posted on the stellar exam page. Please make sure you view this after you have done your studying.

IAP For-Credit Course: 5.301 Chemistry Laboratory Techniques

Dear 5.112 Students,

We write to advise you on an important Chemistry Lab experience that will run during IAP January 2018. 5.301, Chemistry Laboratory Techniques, a six credit course for freshmen only.

It’s been kept quiet because enrollment is limited to only 12 selected students.
The course guarantees each participant a UROP in the Chemistry Department as early as spring 2018.

The course teaches all the basic practical lab techniques from recrystallization, distillation, column chromatography, protein assays and ends with a complex synthesis of a penicillin antibiotic followed by testing on live bacteria.
