More Cash for Clunkers news

An environmentally tougher bill would require that the subsidies be limited to new cars that get 25% better gas mileage than current minimum fuel standards (27.5 miles per gallon for passenger cars and 23.1 for trucks). A more lenient bill would offer the vouchers to buyers of new cars that roughly meet current fuel standards.

...

Lobbyists say lawmakers are leaning toward applying the more lenient standards to stoke participation.

Assignment 4 Posted; Global Warming Sim this Friday

Assignment 4, Logan Runway Expansion, has been posted to Stellar.
Two copies are due by Thursday May 14th to my office, and on Stellar. This is the last day classes without finals are allowed to accept assignments (apologies to those of you who are completing a thesis). You can, of course, hand it in earlier if you so choose.

Please come to class on Friday with questions on the assignment. The first half will be dedicated to the Global Warming Simulation exercise, and the second half to other materials, including the reading for this week.

Finally, as many of you know, we traditionally take the students to dinner after the final paper has been collected. We've tentatively scheduled the dinner this year for Friday the 15th of May, likely in the North End. Please RSVP, so we are aware of any significant conflicts, and can make appropriate reservations.

See you Friday.

Class Cancelled this Friday; Use time to prepare for next week's Global Warming Simulation

In order to allow you to prepare for the global warming simulation next week, we have cancelled class this week.

I have uploaded the Global Warming Simulation Roles to Stellar. Please read your role carefully and prepare for class next week. This is a participatory assignment - there is no written component, but it will be graded.

Each person will be required to present a short opening statement (1-2 minutes) Come prepared with a policy proposal. After opening statements are presented the chair will entertain a policy proposal. Three different policy proposals may be entertained within the entire session – although the chair and the delegates may adjust the timing and format as necessary to facilitate full and open debate of the issues, conflicts and possibilities. You will be graded on your preparation, participation and ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues and the context of international environmental-transport policy making.

Each person who is registered for the class for credit has been assigned a role. If you are a listener or other occasional attendee, let me know if you want a role, and I will assign you one.
