Final Exam and Farewell

Good evening fellow optics experts,

Your final exam grade has now been uploaded to Stellar.

Mean/StDev = 64.9/15.5
Max/Min = 84/41

On behalf of Prof. Fang and myself, it has been a pleasure spending this semester discussing optics with you. As you enter into the summer recess (and as some of you prepare to leave MIT for the next step in your career), we hope that you can walk away from this course with a deeper understanding of optical systems and the way light interacts with the matter around us. For those of you who plan on taking the Mechanical Engineering qualifying exam in optics, please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any of these topics in the future. Also, if you wish to pick up some of your graded materials that you might not have gathered in class, please email me and we can setup a time to meet.

Best wishes with all of your future endeavors!

Matt

HW#7 Solutions Posted

Hi Class,

Few things to note, first of all, two typos were found in the statement on HW#7. For problem #2, there should be a factor of 1/2 in front of the cosine terms in the input intensity and problem #4 should say that we are interested in finding the field at a position f-Delta to right of the lens so that the wording agrees with the figure.

I've posted my hand-written solutions since I haven't had time to type them up. If you have any questions or have trouble reading them email me or come to office hours tomorrow (1-3 pm stata center cafe).

Best wishes with your studies,

Matt

HW#6 Grades and Errata

Hi Everyone,

I've posted the grades from HW#6 to the gradebook. I also found some typos in the solutions to problem #4. They have been corrected and a new version has been uploaded.

See you in an hour or so,

Matt

Matt's Extra Office Hours on Saturday

Hi All,

Since your exam is fast approaching, I will hold a special last office hour from 1-3pm this Saturday in the Stata Center cafe. I hope to have the solutions to the last problem set posted by Friday at the latest so you can review them over the weekend. Feel free to email me any questions you might have or if you would like to arrange an alternate time to meet and discuss course material.

Best wishes with your preparations,

Matt
