Labs and quiz 1 next wednesday
Hi all!Your stereonet lab is corrected, it is on my office door (54-710) , you can pick it up whenever you want. It would be great if you turned in your XRD lab soon so you can have the correction before the quiz on Wednesday. You can leave it in my door.
For the quiz....
You will have access to the 2d space group and the 3d point group
hand-outs. You will be tested on lab materials so you should
know:
- 2D space groups (wallpaper groups): identify symmetry elements
and unit cell.
- 3D symmetry: identify symmetry elements and find point
group.
- Sphere packing and related symmetry: difference between ABAB and
ABCABC, symmetry elements of each.
- Polyhedral models: identify coordination models in a crystal
structure.
- Stereonets: draw vectors and planes, measure angles on
stereonets.
- XRD: application of Bragg's law (.. and Bragg's law
itself!)
- Reciprocal lattice: construct a reciprocal lattice for a simple
lattice (for instance, a monoclinic one).
I will be around on Monday and Tuesday if you have
questions.
Have a nice weekend!
Alejandra
