Followup about remaining classes
Hi everybody,I want to re-iterate again that although we're going to have fewer class meetings, Prof. Greenstone, Tyler and I will be available for you during class time, our office hours, and by-appointment. We are excited to discuss your projects and you should take advantage of this time.
We also encourage you to discuss your papers within your teams. The written comments are the only formal requirement, but you should collaborate and support each other beyond that as well.
Additionally, I wanted to emphasize the importance of the remaining formal classes and remind you of their objectives.
March 20th -- Meet to discuss projects in teams
April 1st -- Meet to describe final data that will be used in the
project
April 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th, and May 1st -- Student presentations
of papers

Roadmap for rest of class
Announcements-----------------------
1) Except for several days noted on the syllabus, we are basically done with formal classes for the semester.
During class time, Tyler and I will hold office hours and will be happy to discuss your papers. The next time we will meet as a class is March 20th, when there will be team meetings to discuss the projects.
2) Your proposals are due on Friday by 12pm. You should send your
proposal to *both me and Tyler*. The proposal should be 2 pages,
single spaced, as mentioned in the syllabus. I've uploaded some
templates for the proposal.
Your proposal should include:
a) Description of research question including motivation for why
it's important
b) Research design (specifying your empirical
model/equation).
c) Description of data
In your research design, you should explicitly discuss causality and identification. Describe how your econometric technique allows you to make causal inference and also describe what are some potential challenges or limitations of your approach.
Finally, you should also include a single powerpoint-like slide that summarizes your paper. The Massachusetts Healthcare Reform slide is a great example.
3) Research teams and reviewing one another's proposal.
Every one is responsible for reviewing ALL of the proposals from everyone in the group by Wednesday, March **13th** (NOTE: The syllabus incorrectly says March 14th).
When you send your comments on other students' proposals, please send them to the student and also copy me and Tyler.
Let me know if anything is unclear or there are more questions.
