Surveys - to clarify

Hi all,

To clarify, there are two surveys.

First, and most important, is the official MIT/Sloan survey. To take this survey log on stellar and click "Take Survey" in the banner across the top.

Second, some feedback on speakers. The survey is located here https://survey.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eWMP84z6KR0QpTv

Last class today

Dear all,

This year, the end-of-semester evaluations are only available online (there are no paper forms). Please bring your laptop to class so you can fill out the survey for 618 during class.

In addition, if you could provide some feedback on the speakers with our survey (below) that would be very helpful

Thank you very much!

Exercise 2 / Course updates

Hi folks –

The second exercise is coming up soon – it will distributed in class on Monday April 29, and it will be due on Wednesday May 1st at 10pm.    The format and rules will be parallel to the first exercise, except that the word limit for your answer will be 600 words (up from 500).

In terms of preparing for the second exercise, I am going to narrow down your task quite a bit. For some of the classes we have had in the second half of the semester, the readings did not provide the kind of back-up to the lectures that I think should be there before I expect you to be able to answer an exercise question. So the exercise will draw on only two topics:  Antitrust as discussed in the readings and presentation in Class 5, and Trade Secrets as will be discussed in the readings and presentation in Class 8 (tomorrow).

By the way, Elyssa and I have updated the Stellar site. There is a fresh version of the Syllabus (dated 4/21/13) which reflects the current line-up of guests and topics. The readings for each class have also been brought up-to-date.

If you want to meet with me before the exercise, remember that the procedure is that you should contact Patty Curley to set up a time during my office hours next week. I have expanded my usual hours so that I will be available on Tuesday 11-1. If you can’t make it during my office hours (or if all the time slots are taken), we will make an alternative arrangement.

Best,
John

Class 8 Monday 4/22

Hi folks –

This Monday (4/22) we will have with us Victoria Cundiff, a partner at Paul Hastings, and a leading authority on trade secret protection.  The textbook (Burgunder) has a good chapter on trade secrets. The part of that chapter which is assigned reading for his course (can be read before or after the class) is pp. 178 – 205, but you should skip the CoolEdge inserts and The DeCSS Trade Secret Dispute (pp. 195-198).

Best,
John
