March 7th Class Reminders
15.665ers,
We have Professor Curhan in class this Thursday to debrief the
class he Skype taught two weeks ago. Please look through the
following list of reminders to stay up to date with our course:
1) Please bring a laptop/tablet/wifi device to class this Thursday
for the debrief and to receive your individualized feedback.
2) Slides from last week's class have been posted to Stellar
under the Materials section. Post-class readings are also available
(an optional reading about negotiating a job salary has been
posted) on Stellar. Readings for this week's class are in the
book Getting To Yes.
3) At the end of class on Thursday, Professor Curhan will post a
slide denoting your roles for the following week's class
(3/14). Sophia and I will be handing out role sheets as you depart
the room. You will be preparing for this negotiation as homework
and are to complete a planning document to be turned in at the
start of class. The pairing of who you will actually negotiate with
will be announced in class (you will not know ahead of time).
4) Professor Loyd spent time last week discussing the long-term
group project. As she mentioned, each class is to break into teams
of five people to work together on the assignment. Please use the
following links for team formation. The left side of each document
is for teams that have already been created. The right side is a
tool to put your name if you are still looking for teammates. As
people in your section post their name and email address, we
encourage you to reach out via email or in class to make teams of
five. Please only edit the section in which you are enrolled.

Last February Class (2/28/13)
15.665ers,
Three reminders for class this Thursday:
1) Thursday is the last day to turn in the course copyright
voucher. Vouchers are available for sale at CopyTech (basement of
E52) and cost $33.00.
2) The exercise on Thursday is called Social Services. All
preparation will be done in class. It is an awesome
negotiation.
3) For those requiring Add/Drop paperwork signatures, Professor
Loyd will be available to sign at 11:25am and 5:25pm in her
respective class rooms.

Three Quick Reminders for Tomorrow (2/21/13)
15.665ers,
1) Bring a laptop or tablet to class that has WiFi/3G access to the
internet. Everyone will use their device three separate times
during tomorrow's session.
2) Please remember to be on time to class tomorrow and for all
subsequent classes.
3) We will be funneling students to enter the classroom through a
single door (rather than the standard two entrances that exist).
You will understand why tomorrow, but it will help organize the
roles for tomorrow's class in an efficient way.
See you at 8:35 or 2:35!

Thursday's Class - 2/21/13
15.665ers,
Please read this email as it contains important information for
this week's class meeting and for the course as a whole.
-The first goal statement assignment is due at the beginning of
class. Hard copies should be turned into your TA as you enter the
room. The details of the assignment were handed out in class last
week and can also be found on Stellar.
-Reminder to purchase the copyright voucher from CopyTech for the
course, write your name and school ID number, and turn into your
TA.
-Professor Jared Curhan is in charge of the session this week.
Please bring to class on Feb 21 and March 7 a laptop or iPad with
WiFi or broadband connection to the internet. You will use this
device to complete post-negotiation questionnaires (on Feb 21) and
to receive personalized feedback (on March 7).
-No planning document or external preparation is due this week.
Similar to the last two classes, all negotiation preparation and
actual negotiations will be conducted during class time.
We have a full day scheduled for Thursday (3 negotiation
activities!) and everyone needs to be ON TIME for the 8:35am or
2:35pm start time. Sophia and Mike are beginning to track late
arrivals and will deduct points from the professionalism component
of student grades.
Enjoy the holiday!

Reminders for Power and Negotiation
Hi everyone!
Thanks for a great class on Thursday.
I hope the blizzard did not treat you too badly.
I wanted to send a few reminders as we look toward class this week. This will be longer than usual as it is the start of the class. Please read it thoroughly.
1. I noticed many people walking into class late on Thursday. Being late to class is unprofessional and disruptive to your classmates. You should be in the classroom, seated, and ready to start at 5 minutes after the published start time (i.e., 8:35am or 2:35pm). If this will be a problem, you should consider taking another class. If you have a structural reason for being late regularly (e.g., a class across campus that ends just before this one begins, a childcare issue, problems with mobility), please discuss this with me.
2. The syllabus, first assignment, and slides for class #1 have been posted to Stellar. Please sign in to see these documents.
3. The first assignment is due Tuesday (tomorrow) night at 11:59pm est. It is a Personal Evaluation Assignment. There are 2 surveys for you to complete that focus on your personality and style of interacting with others. You should set aside 90 uninterrupted minutes to complete the surveys. Once you begin a survey, you cannot pause and go back, but I highly recommend going to the link now just to make sure you have access and see your name. You can return to the link and complete the surveys at a later point. If you do not see your name, please email me right away.
4. Thursday we will negotiate in class. All materials will be provided to you during the class session.
5. Remember that there is only 1 excused absence for the semester and it requires 72 hours notice. This means you must email us by Monday if you expect to be absent on Thursday. You are required to notify us of any absences whether or not they will be excused because you absence will affect the negotiation pairings.
6. A note about section swaps. Attending the other class section instead of your own is not allowed without permission in advance. In trying to create a safe environment, the class becomes an extended family of sorts. Attending the other section is like going to someone else's family reunion. I highly discourage this behavior except in extenuating circumstances. Like absences, section swap requests, require at least 72 hours notice.
7. Each week the class TA will send a reminder email like this one as students tell us they find it very helpful.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
Have a great start to your week.
