Announcements
Memos, new materials and an update to the schedule
Hi everyoneThis is to alert you to the following :
(1) Memos
Comments on memos have been added to the Stellar site and the
dropbox.
In the future memos will be due at 5pm on Friday. There was some
confusion this time about whether memos had been uploaded to
Stellar on time. To avoid this, please add a final copy of each
memo to the dropbox folder 'Final memos'. The memo
assignments posted on Stellar which will get added to the Stellar
class schedule will only serve to alert to you as to when the memos
are due. Comments on memos will be added both to Stellar and the
dropbox.
(2) Coordination meeting slides
Similarly, please add the slides for your coordination meeting
presentations before class to the Coordination Meeting slides
folder also on the dropbox.
(3) Update to the schedule
Ethan Bates will present to the class on the technical aspects of
deep boreholes during class on March 5th.
(4) New materials
The following materials have been added to the Stellar site:
- DOE Analysis of the Total System Life Cycle Cost of the Civilian
Radioactive Waste Management Program (2007) (This is the document
that Prof.Lester refers to in his comments on the memos and which
he recommended as a resource during the coordination meeting on
Thursday)
- Dr.Forsberg's slides on Waste classification (slides from
22.78, Spring'13)
Apologies for any confusion caused by the multiple platforms. But I think we are closer to standardizing use of these online resources.
Cheers,
Aditi

The prospects for nuclear power vary widely from country to country
as a result of many factors, ranging from the costs of
alternatives, the response to the Fukushima accident, differing
approaches to energy security, concerns about nuclear waste, and
other factors. These changes in the coming years will dramatically
affect progress on matters relating to safety, security and
safeguards. The talk will explore the changing role of nuclear
power around the globe and its implications.
