Final Exam Solution Posted

Dear Class,

The solution to the final exam has been posted (with histograms for the score of each problem).

Joanne (joanne@csail.mit.edu) has the exams at her desk, in the 32-G6 area. If you'd like to view your exam, you can either stop by her desk during regular business hours or email her directly to coordinate a time to meet. You cannot take the exam with you.

We will not re-grade individual questions on the final, in order to keep our grading rubric consistent across all students in the class. (In the unlikely event that you find an arithmetic error, let us know and we can re-sum your final score.) Also, we will not consider regrades on past psets/exams at this late date.

Have a great summer!

Final Grades

Grades for the final exam and for the semester as a whole are now available.

For the final exam, your numeric score (out of 180 points) has been posted under the Gradebook section of Stellar. For now, we're only releasing your individual score. We will post more information (including solutions and histograms) within a few days.

Your letter grades for the semester have been submitted to the Registrar's Office. You should be able to view these either now or very soon via your WebSIS Grade Report.

Final Exam Logistics

The 6.046 final exam is Tuesday (tomorrow) from 1:30-4:30pm at the Johnson Ice Rink.

This quiz is closed book. You may use two double-sided letter (8.5x11") or A4 crib sheets. (We suggest bringing your crib sheet from Quiz 1, plus another sheet for the remaining material.) No calculators are permitted.

Finally, to clarify the 20% rule: A blank answer to a question or part will receive a score of approximately 20%. If you write an answer that is completely incorrect, your score can decrease to as low as 0%. If you write an answer that is incomplete but on the right track, our intention is that you will receive at least 20% credit, with more credit awarded for better answers.

In other words, if you're able to give a partially correct solution, you should! The 20% rule is in place to help you on the questions where you can't think of any correct solutions.

Forgotten charger at review session

Someone left a laptop charger at tonight's review session. Please email me (jhwan@mit.edu) if this belongs to you. Otherwise, I'll bring it to the final tomorrow.

Course Evaluation and Policy on Blank Answers on the Final

First, if you haven't done so, please fill out course evaluations for 6.046: http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation

This feedback is really valuable to us, as it helps us improve this class and our teaching in the future. Please tell us what you liked and didn't like about the class, and how you think it could be improved.

So far we only have about 20% feedback rate. Deadline is late night Sunday!

Secondly, for the final exam, we are going to change the policy on blank answers (from quiz 1). Now, if you leave the answer to a problem part blank, you will receive a score of approximately 20%. If you write a bad answer, your score may reduce to 0.

Good luck studying!
