Subject Description: 

Introduction to chemistry, with emphasis on basic principles of atomic and molecular electronic structure, thermodynamics, acid-base and redox equilibria, chemical kinetics, and catalysis. Introduction to the chemistry of biological, inorganic, and organic molecules.

Online Course Evaluations...

As of my last check, 65% of the class had responded to the online course evaluations. Since 65% > 60%, you have achieved your goal! Good work. You should thus expect that the exam will include:
1) One problem from PSet 11 (the ungraded PSet on Kinetics)
and
2) One clicker question from Lecture 36 (Reaction Mechanisms)

Preparation for the final exam (which happens on Tuesday May 20th at 9 am)

To help you prepare for the final exam in 5.111:
1. The TAs are going to be running a review session on Friday May 16th from 10 am to 1 pm in 34-101. The schedule is:

10:00 am to 10:45 am

Exam 1 related material

10:45 to 11:30 am

Exam 2 related material

11:30 to 12:15 pm

Exam 3 related material

12:15 to 1 pm

New material since the last exam

2. There is a practice final exam plus its solutions on the course website.
3. There are practice problems on MITx
4. There are office hours on Monday May 19th. Prof. Shoulders has them from 12 noon to 1 pm in 16-573A . Prof. Van Voorhis ahs them from 1 pm to 2 pm in 6- 229 . The Tas have them in 24 - 121 from 2 pm to 8 pm.

Your exam #3 should have been given back to you in recitation yesterday

If you did not get your exam #3 back in recitation yesterday, it can be picked up from the Chemistry Education office (6-205) just like the other two exams. The grades will not be posted on stellar.

TA office hours for exam #3 on Saturday from 3 to 5 pm and Sunday from 3 to 9 pm

The Tas are going to have some extra office hours:
Beth will have some on Saturday May 3rd from 3 to 5 pm in 6-233
The rest of the staff are going to be in 4-163 from 3 pm to 9 pm on Sunday May 4th.

First Part of Problem Set 10 Released

Dear Class,

The first section of Problem Set 10 on transition metals and crystal field theory was released on Stellar this morning. The remainder of the Problem Set will be posted as we enter the kinetics module of 5.111 late next week. The combined assignment is due May 9 at 12:00 PM, four days after Exam 3.
