Final Exam Coverage
The final exam will focus on the material subsequent to the
quiz coverage, but the best problems for a final are those that
bring together different parts of the subject.
Thus the earlier material will come up in a number of places and you should review it.
To be specific, the sections of the text that you will be responsible for consist of the following:
Chapter 1 (all)
Chapter 2 (all)
Chapter 4 (Sections 4.1-4.4 and Subsection 4.5.1)
Chapter 5 (Sections 5.1-5.6, Subsection 5.7.1, and Section 5.8)
Chapter 6 (Sections 6.1-6.7)
Chapter 7 (Sections 7.1-7.6)
Chapter 8 (Section 8.1)
Chapter 9 (Sections 9.1-9.9)
You may bring 3 double-side 8 1/2 by 11 pages of notes to the final, but otherwise it is closed book.
Best wishes for the final, and we hope you have all benefitted from the class.

Grades of Pset 8
Please check if your grades are posted in Homework Section. The proof of 6.11(a) in the solutions seems incomplete. The solution first assumed the sum in question to be finite, and given that, the steady state probabilities were correctly found. If that sum is infinite, however, it shows that there cannot be a reversible and positive recurrent solution. It does not quite show that there can't be a positive recurrent but not reversible steady state.Announced on 05 May 2014 7:42 a.m. by Xuewei Zhang
