Summary of Presentation Ideas

We’ve summarized the main ideas from 6.UAT onto a single page (Materials > Resources > 6.UAT Summary of Presentation Ideas). Your RI/TA may have your peers use them to give you feedback on your talk (and if you want copies of them, please let your TA know by next Wed). While it contains things we look for in a talk, we will not be using it as a grading rubric for your talk; nevertheless, it might be instructive to remind yourself of all the ideas from 6.UAT as you work on your Final Talk (and other talks in the future).

What's Left in the Last Two Weeks of 6.UAT

4 recitations

2 assignments: Final Talk + Online Final Self-Assessment

1 lecture

That’s what’s left.

In the final recitations, you will be giving your Final Talks. As mentioned in Lecture 1, this is a chance for you to showcase what you’ve learned this term. Pick a topic you are passionate about, determine the takeaways and kind of talk, structure the message using ideas from each of the modules, design your slides and show improvement in delivery. You are also supposed to include something beyond slides and figure out how do that effectively. Finally, you should have realized the importance of practicing beforehand, so consider going to office hours (or scheduling a dryrun with staff or with a friend).

The online final self-assessment (companion to the self-assessment you took at the start of the term) will be available on Stellar starting May 5th. Your RI and TA will not have access to this until grades are submitted. If you do not wish to answer a question, submit random junk. It may take 1-2 days for a grade of 4 to show.

Finally, Monday’s lecture has been cancelled to give you more time to work on your Final Talks. (I will be available then if you have any questions.) There is one last lecture on May 13th.

New Proposal Competition RFPs & Prizes

We're making two changes to the Proposal Competition to encourage signups.

First, the original note-taking app RFP has been broadened to allow you to enter with a talk on any software application (e.g. web, mobile, tablet, etc.) you have worked on previously or plan to build. Check out the updated RFPs here.

Second, we've added prizes for 2nd & 3rd place. Now, 1st place receives $500, 2nd place $250, and 3rd place $100.

We highly encourage you to enter! This is a great opportunity to put your idea out there and see how industry responds. To do so, update your response to the Final Talk form and let us know which RFP you're doing:

We'll accept signups until May 4, 2015 at 11:59pm. If you sign up after April 24, 11:59pm, we'll expect you to stay in the competition. Send any questions to uat-competition@mit.edu.
