22.071  Elec, Signals, Measurement

Spring 2018

Instructor: Anne E White

TAs: Sean Bozkurt Ballinger, Alexander James Creely, Jacob N Miske, Benjamin R Sheffer

Lecture:  MWF10.30-12.30  (NW14-1112)

Information:

Why take a class on introductory class on analog electronics in the digital age?

Because the real world is analog! And also, becuase if you wish to transmit information or transfer energy, you will find that our most advanced, exciting systems are all reliant on the buiding blocks of analog electronics. Try to do robotics, or deep learning/AI for control systems without analog electronics? (https://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/artificial-intelligence/analog-and-neuromorphic-chips-will-rule-robotic-age). Not going to happen. Try doing quantum computing without analog electronics? (https://www.nature.com/articles/npjqi201511) Could be tough.

This will be a fun class, and we will introduce you in a very hands on way to the basics of analogue and digital electronics, and position you to explore more of the vast, exciting and fast-paced world of electronics.

Provides the knowledge necessary for reading schematics and designing, building, analyzing, and testing fundamental analog and digital circuits. Students construct interactive examples and explore the practical uses of electronics in engineering and experimental science, including signals and measurement fundamentals. Uses state-of-the-art hardware and software for data acquisition, analysis, and control. Suitable for students with little or no previous background in electronics. Limited to 20.
