Lecture 9: Linear Response of Free Electron Gas

We derive the momentum- and frequency-dependent density response function of free electron gas, and find different results in q->0 and omega->0 limits.

We derive the sum rule based on charge conservation, and discuss its implication on spectral weight in optical conductivity measurements and the change of spectral weight in phase transitions.
