Final exam grades

The average score on the final exam was 169/250, with a standard deviation of 42. You can think of final exam scores as corresponding to letter grades in roughly this way:

A: 195-250
B: 160-194
C: 120-159

Course grades have been assigned and will be sent to the registrar Monday morning 12/21; they should be accessible to you shortly after that. The originally announced grading policy said that to pass the course you needed (among other things) to pass the final. We interpreted "passing the final" to mean a score of 110 or more; but for those who didn't manage that, we looked hard for other evidence of understanding before settling on a final grade.

You'll be able to look at your final exam in your instructor's office after the holiday, but not to keep it.

Thank you all for your hard work and for your patience with me. Have a restful and joyful holiday!

No extensions on problem sets

As explained in the first class, there will be no extensions on the due dates for problem sets. Really. None. Not for snow, not for rain, not for heat, not for gloom of night, and not for flu.

Missing one problem set isn't going to change your semester point total very much. If you want to tell your recitation instructor a reason that one is missing (after you've returned to good health) we can take this into account in assigning course grades.
