Lecture:  MW11-12.30  (3-133)

Description:

A survey of the history of architecture from the Stone Age to the present. The course treats buildings and environments (especially cities) in the dual context of the history of contemporary life and the history of architecture as an autonomous discipline. It offers an introduction to the fundamental elements of architectural form, to methods of criticism, and to problems of historical analysis. The subject is taught in two one and a half hour lectures and one hour long recitation meetings per week, with three short papers, a mid-term quiz and a final exam.
