Final Exam scores available on Stellar

Dear Class,
The final has been graded and you can find your scores on Stellar (unless it goes down again).
Median score was 146 out of 200.  Top score was 197.
Here is a rough breakdown of the final exam scores into letter grade equivalents
150-200 A
120-150 B
100-120 C
< 100  D or F.
The final exam contributes 40% of the overall course grade.
I expect that the course grades will be available on WebSIS on Thursday.

Enjoy your holidays.
Be sure to write us if you get any good ideas on proving P neq NP....

office hours and course evaluation

Dear Class,

1.  My office hours this week will be Thursday after lecture 12:30-2
instead of Monday afternoon.  The TAs will hold special office hours
Friday afternoon 1-4.

2.  Please remember to fill out the subject evaluation, especially
to give feedback to Zack and Michael on their first time teaching.
Confusingly, two overlapping evaluation systems exist:

The MIT-wide system
http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation/evaluate.html

The HKN system
http://sixweb.mit.edu/

I believe the HKN system gives more detail, but may be available
only to students who registered for 6.840; I'm not sure.
Fill out whichever one you prefer, ideally both.

Thanks!
Mike

midterm graded and solutions posted

Dear Class,
The midterm solutions are now on the course site and on STELLAR.
I'll return the graded exam papers at the end of lecture tomorrow.
Your individual scores are on STELLAR. The average is 76.
Here is a rough breakdown of the scores as letter grades:
  75-100 A
  60-75   B
  50-60   C
    < 50   D or F

Note that the midterm is 20% of the overall grade.  The homework and final are each 40%.  Regular recitation attendance will be taken into consideration and may improve low grades.  A low midterm grade will be underweighted if the rest of the course performance is high.

Come speak with me or the TAs if you have any questions.  My office hours are Mondays 2 to 4 and by appointment.

Changes to Problem Set 3

Hi Folks, here are two changes to Problem Set 3:

#1:  Change "CFL" to "CFG".
#7:  Make this an optional (starred) problem.
Note that Section 6.4 in the text will not be covered on the midterm exam.

Sorry for any confusion.  I've posted the corrected version.
Good luck on the midterm tomorrow.
