6.731  Semiconductor Optoelectronics: Theory and Design

Fall 2010

Instructors: Jason Orcutt, Rajeev J Ram

Lecture:  MWF 2-3 pm  (36-144)

Information:

Focuses on the physics of the interaction of photons with
semiconductor materials. Uses the band theory of solids to
calculate the absorption and gain of semiconductor media; and uses
rate equation formalism to develop the concepts of laser threshold,
population inversion, and modulation response. Presents theory and
design for photodetectors, solar cells, modulators, amplifiers, and
lasers.
