Information on Exam 3
Dear 8.02 Students,As you know, the third midterm exam will take place Monday, November 25, during regular class time. This will be a two-hour exam.
The material covered in this exam will be that introduced through Monday, November 18, up to but not including Electromagnetic Waves. While everything we have discussed this semester before EM waves is fair game, you can expect the focus of exam 3 to be material covered since the second exam, i.e. beginning with Ampere’s Law.
We will use the class time on Friday, November 22, to do a review for the exam. We will post on Monday, November 18, a few practice exams on the website for your use. A few days before November 25 we will post the solutions to those exams. Please be aware that the coverage of exams varies from year to year, so the practice exams may have somewhat different coverage than the exam next week. The practice exams we posted previously are still there and will likely be useful for some of the coverage of this exam.
During the exam you are to have on the table only writing instruments. You will not need a calculator and they will not be allowed. We will provide you an “equation sheet” that will contain expressions that you might be tempted to memorize. This equation sheet will be posted on the website a few days before the exam. You are welcome to print it out and add other expressions you may find useful. Complete solutions to problems should not be added. You may bring your equation sheet to the exam for your use, although we will have copies of our version on the exam. You must turn in your equation sheet with your exam when you finish the exam.
