8.03  Physics III

Dear all,

The final exam will be Tuesday, December 17, 1:30-4:30pm in Johnson.  It will be a comprehensive exam with a breakdown roughly as follows: the EM portion of the course will account for ~70% and the non-EM material the remaining 30%. 

I posted two practice final exams and their solutions on Stellar.  I also posted the Formula Sheet that will be included with the Final. 

As mentioned in my previous announcement, I will hold an 8.03 review session on Thursday from 12:30-2:00 in 6-120.  I will also have office hours on Friday from 1:00-3:00pm.

Finally, please remember to bring in your lab kits to return after lecture tomorrow.

I've posted Pset 10, which will be due next week on Wednesday, November 27 at 5pm.  It is a relatively short pset covering reflection and refraction of light in dielectrics.  It includes a brief experiment. 

I will have office hours on Wednesday morning from 11:00-12:00.

Dear students,

Our Exam 2 will be next week on Thursday, November 14, 11:00-12:30 in Walker Memorial (50-340).  The exam is closed book and will cover the following topics:

• 1, 2 and 3-D wave equation
• Traveling waves: pulses, harmonic waves, energy
• Boundary conditions: free, clamped, in-between; reflection and transmission
• Standing waves: normal modes of continuous systems
• Arbitrary modes of continuous systems: Fourier analysis
• Dispersive waves
  
• Electromagnetic waves in vacuum: Plane, polarized waves
• Sources of radiation: Accelerating charges and dipole radiation
  

On stellar, I posted a practice exam + solutions and the formula sheet that will be included with the exam.

To help you prepare, I will also have two extra office hours next week:  Tuesday 2:00-3:00 and Wednesday 2:00-3:00.
