Cutoffs

Dear all,

The letter grades have been assigned, and it may take anywhere between 12 hours and 12 days for them to show up in websis. In the meantime, you can determine your letter by following the algorithm presented in the info sheet to the scores you have in the gradebook. (4/6/5 for psets/midterms/final. The weight of part A vs part B for the psets is 1 vs 3. The lowest score is dropped independently in A and B. When an assignment is excused, the average is computed with the remaining assignments).

The cutoffs are:
A+ 94
A 88
A- 83
B+ 81
B 74
B- 69
C+ 67
C 63
C- 60
D 49

None of this applies in case you missed the final. Those with O and I grades will be put in touch with one of us.

Best wishes for 2015!

Last-minute remarks

Dear all,

A few last-minute remarks about the final (tomorrow Wednesday December 17, from 1:30 to 4:30 at the Johnson Track for most of you):

Sheet 2 of your booklet will be the same formula sheet as they had in the spring of 2014. Check under materials for that exam.

If you have any remaining qualms about the grading of any of the psets or midterms, please see your recitation leader immediately. We won't be able to make adjustments once the letter grades are assigned.

Lecture 34 is not part of the material. All the others are.

As usual, we'll have the exam without notes, books, or electronic devices.

Policy about illnesses: When you show up for an exam, you are affirming that you are well enough to take it. If you are sick, seek medical attention, stay home, email me and your recitation instructor as soon as possible, and contact S^3; assuming that S^3 sends me an excuse notice and that you have been doing passing work up to the final, you will receive a grade of O for 18.03, which will be converted to OX if your absence is approved by a dean; you will then have to retake an 18.03 final exam later on (the next one being the Advanced Standing Exam during Orientation Week before fall classes begin) to change it to a regular grade: contact Galina Lastovkina galina@math.mit.edu, 617-253-4977, room E18-366 if you have questions about this.

Best of luck, and thanks for a terrific semester. I can speak for everyone in the teaching team: we had a great time with you all.
