Information: 

Introduces the design and behavior of large-scale structures and structural materials. Emphasizes the development of structural form and the fundamental principles of structural mechanics. Introduces design methods for structural steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, timber, and structural glass as applied to building and bridge systems. Laboratory to solve structural problems by building and testing simple models. Required of MArch students.

Dan Brodkin joined Arup in 1988. He has practiced as a structural engineer in London and is currently a Principal with the New York office. His professional experience includes project management, structural design and site supervision for large-scale projects. He applies advanced analytical techniques to support challenging architectural designs. He has particular experience in the structural design of long-span roofs, tensile structures, and glass structures. Dan has project experience on a variety of types of projects, ranging from college campus buildings to airport terminals to museums, libraries, performing arts centers and convention centers where he provides innovative structural solutions.

Graham Dodd has wide knowledge and experience in the design, manufacture and construction of structural glass and facade systems having spent 6 years with a major glass producer. He has lead a team of facade designers involved in all aspects of the glazing contractor’s activity on projects in the U.K., Europe, Asia and North America. His early experience in other industries brings knowledge of a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes.
