Announcements
talk times and other matters related to presentations next week
Each presentation should take no more than 20mins – hopefully less – to allow at least 5 mins of discussion and some minimal transition time between talks. If we adhere to this schedule, we can leave shortly before 5PM both Tuesday and Thursday. (We *must* leave before 5PM on Tuesday.)Please send us (Michael and me) your titles, so we can list the program on Stellar.
If you plan to use the projector, please let me know ASAP. A handout is most welcome either way.

OT-CC exercises
I have posted an *optional* PS-6 containing a couple of OT-CC exercises, for those who would like to practice their understanding of that theory. Because it's optional, there is no due date.Announced on 27 April 2011 5:51 p.m. by Donca Steriade
Presentations of squibs
Hi all, we had planned that oral presentations of the term projects will take place in an expanded time slot of the last class, on May 12, 2:30-5:30PM. However that plan ignored the fact that there are 10 of you: if we stick to it, you will each get 12mins to talk, 3mins for discussion and 3mins for transition between talks - speaking from experience, it can be tough to stick to this kind of schedule, and you don't get as much out of it.Hence this question: are there any among you who would be willing to present their work on the Tuesday of last week (May 10?) The projects need not be finished (on either Tuesday or Thursday) and if we get a few people to speak on Tuesday 5/10, everybody benefits in terms of expanded discussion time both days.
Please respond to both Michael and to me.
Thanks,
Donca

reading for Derived Environments lecture
For Thursday's lecture, read Inkelas 1998 (on Stellar, Materials/Derived Environments): it's a survey of the phenomenon and of work in OT on this subject until the late 90's. If you want to look at a more recent analysis of this phenomenon, read McCarthy's 2002 Comparative Markedness, in the same section of the Stellar site.Announced on 26 April 2011 9:56 p.m. by Donca Steriade
