Dear 15.763 Course Participants,William Bonvillian, Director of MIT's DC office, has brought to my attention that MIT is hosting the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Regional Meeting on May 16. Metalworks - Demand File
Hi all,Some students have pointed out that, because of a minor issue in the Future Demand Data Excel file, demand for cabinets may grow at 7% per year rather than the 10% per year stated in the case description. The data type for column C should be 'Number,' but if Excel reads column C as a text value, you should convert it to number so that columns H, I, and J can read the values in column C correctly.
If you have already completed your analysis based on the 7% increasing demand values, it is unnecessary to re-do the work as long as you note the issue in your write-up.

Alex

Capacity Planning P-set & Office Hours
Here are some clarifications to the capacity planning p-set:-In part 1d, you are asked to combine tasks and increase cycle time. The new system can have different number of workers as the current system. You have the freedom to decide how to combine tasks and how many workers to hire.
-In part 2c, note that the server cannot achieve 100% utilization with any finite K. So your definition of "full capacity" could be 99% or any value that you think is reasonable in practice.
-In part 3, each workstation can hold up to one laptop at a time. Workstations must be aligned in serial along the conveyor.
-Finally, a friendly reminder that Prof. de Treville will hold office hours tomorrow (Tue) from 3 to 5pm in her office (E62-560).
Best,
He
