final grades posted
Dear quanta,Your final grades for the course, including letter grades, are now online.
The final exam turned out similar to the midterm in difficulty, with an average of 120/175 (note that due to an addition error, the total score was 175 - fortunately the only mistakes were on the title page!) and a std. dev of 30. (This is about 69% +- 17%.)
Thanks for making this a really fun class to teach! I feel privileged to have been able to teach you this semester and I hope you've enjoyed your time in the quantum world.
Best wishes for your future endeavors, be they quantum or classical.

term paper grades
Dear 8.06,You should have just received an email with your term paper "referee report" and grade. Please check that the grade you see on stellar is the same.
Your final grade will be 35% from the final, 15% from the midterm, 25% from the psets (of which the lowest is dropped) and 25% from the term paper. The A/B/C/D boundaries are not totally fixed but last year were around 80/70/60.
It's been a lot of fun reading your term papers and we hope to have the bound copies back tomorrow in time to return to you at the final exam.

Dear 8.06,Our thanks to the 58% of you who have so far filled out
evaluations. To the rest of you, we would really like to hear your
thoughts too! The link is here
http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation
and the deadline is tomorrow morning at 9am. So you should do it
tonight! (Although you are hopefully also by now fully
day-shifted.)
In other news, solutions to the practice final exam questions are now up. Your paper grades are nearly complete and will be out by tomorrow. Your pset grades should all be online. Please check now (if you haven't done this already) to make sure your online pset grades match the ones that have been returned to you. Please also let me know if you have any other questions or concerns going into the final.

lecture notes updated
Dear 8.06,Since there is no other reference to the de Haas-van Alphen effect, I've updated chapter 4 of the lecture notes to include it. The other topics with no lecture notes should be either in Griffiths of the Jaffe notes.
