A message from Prof. Makris
Dear Class,
Thank you for your time and effort in 2.065 and 2.066.
I'd like to share with you that while speaking at the House of Lords, I was intrigued by the fact that the best questions and the most outward enthusiasm was coming from the gentlemanly older Lords, even though the audience was a mixture with members of the House of Commons as well. I was very surprised. So afterwards I looked up the names of all the Lords who asked me good questions. It turned out every one of them was either an eminent scientist or civil servant, i.e. the fellow who ran the meeting was previously Ambassador to the UN, before they became a 'Lord.' Every one of them earned their title through years of professional service. This was a big surprise to me.
You may also be surprised that all the material you learned about forward scattering came in handy to explain some very high level misconceptions.
I did mention to the Shadow Secretary of State for Defence in a private meeting that I was missing the last class to be there and she sent her thanks as do I. The material Wenjun will cover on Wednesday is important and did come up in my meetings here in the UK as well.
Thank you for your attendance and attentiveness.
Good Luck with the rest of the Semester,
NM
