No new reading, retrospective syllabus posted
Hi everyone,For those of you who weren't in class on Monday, there is no new reading assignment for tomorrow. The agenda for tomorrow is just to catch up (by discussing the "Wanting and Willing" article that we didn't have time for on Monday) and to sum up. To aid in the summing up, I have posted a "Retrospective syllabus" on Stellar. This is a list of the articles we actually read, in the order we read them.
If you need to submit one more response paper, please write on
any assigned reading that you have not already written about.

Readings for Wed. and Mon.
Hi Everyone,The next two readings are as follows (both on Stellar):
Wed 5/4: Tamar Schapiro, "Childhood and Personhood"
Mon. 5/9: Tamar Schapiro, "On the Relation Between Wanting and Willing"
In the first of these papers, I consider the question what could justify our ordinary practice of regarding children as having a different moral status from adults. In particular the question is why children should be regarded as in some way less responsible for their actions and less entitled to have full control over their own lives.
In the second paper, I use what I say in the first paper to draw an analogy between the authority adults have over children and the authority our willing/choosing selves have over our wanting/inclining selves.
Best,
Tamar
