course grades

Hi all,   I wanted to let you know that I submitted the course grades yesterday.  They have to be approved by the math department, but they should appear on Websis soon.  The grade is based on 30% problem sets, 35 % midterms, 35 % final exam.  It's always hard to set grade cutoffs, and inevitably there are a few people near them.  I started by considering the grade cutoffs for each exam and the homework and averaging those, and then I moved them each down half a point.  The final cutoffs are: above a 61 for a C, above a 75 for a B, above an 86.5 for an A.

It was good working with you all this semester and I wish you a good summer.     Best,  Larry

final exam grades posted

Hi all,     We graded the final exam yesterday, and the grades are now up on Stellar.  It was a challenging exam and the class did well as a whole -- in terms of letter grades, a mark of 86 or above is an A, 70-85 a B, and 50-69 a C.
I've enjoyed working with you through the semester, and I wish you all a good summer.  - L

I'm interested to hear about your experiences in the class as I think about next year, so I hope you'll find a little time to do the evaluation.  Thanks, Larry
