Remaining classes and readings

Hi all. I wanted to update you on the plan for the remainder of the semester.

The next two classes will be on allomorphy: Thursday will be a general overview, focusing on phonologically conditioned suppletive allomorphy; and Tuesday will cover some of my work on several related phenomena. Readings for Thursday's class -- given here in order of importance/relevance --- are now posted on Stellar (sorry for the late notice): Nevins 2011, Carstairs-McCarthy 2001 (mainly Sections 1 & 2), and Paster 2015, as well as the Mascaro and Bonet et al. papers which can be left for later.

Next Thursday's class (5/10) will be a brief introduction to Harmonic Serialism. I'll post the relevant readings this weekend.

I'd also like to remind everyone that we'll be doing presentations for your final projects the last week of class (5/15 and 5/17), i.e. two weeks from now. We'll send you more information about that before the end of this week. If you would like to meet with either/both of us regarding your projects, please just let us know.

PSet 2 in your mailboxes

Hi everyone.

I've made comments on everyone's PSet 2, and placed them in your mailboxes. There is also an answer key posted in the homework tab on stellar.

To follow up on Michael's point regarding PSet 3, (for those of you not already doing this) you should aim to structure your PSets like mini-papers, providing sufficient evidence -- with data, with prose, and (where appropriate) with tableaux -- for all your assertions and claims, even when not explicitly prompted. The posted solutions for Psets 2 & 3 can serve as guides to what we have in mind.

Updated schedule on Stellar

Hi everyone.

We've posted an updated schedule for the remainder of the semester. This includes an updated reading list for the opacity section, which we'll be starting next week.

Also, remember to start talking to us about your squib ideas. A short description of your topic and preliminary bibliography are due when we return from spring break (April 2nd).

Bring Handout 5 tomorrow

We'll be finishing up the remainder of Handout 5 (starting around page 15) at the beginning of class tomorrow, so please bring the handout with you. The handout is up on stellar in case you need to print a new copy.
