Problem Set 1 shortened, Readings for next week, Recitation Friday
Dear Students,Please take some time to review the following important announcements:
1. Please remember to **read the Waldfogel (1993) paper for Tuesday 02/19**, you will find it in the readings section of the materials page.
2. Since we had no time to cover utility functions and their
properties in class, **you do not have to answer Q5 from Pset1**.
The question will be **moved to Pset2**.
3. We will have our **second Recitation on Friday in 2-143**. There are two sections: 9-10a and 10-11a, you can choose which one to attend. We will cover some statistics and probability that you will need in this class. In particular: definitions of probability, random variables, t-statistic, inference, and a review of the potential outcome framework.
4. I will have **office hours** tomorrow 5-6 pm in E52-314. As previously announced on Piazza, since I cancelled my Tuesday OH due to the snow, I will try to hang around after the second recitation slot (finishing at 11 am) outside 2-143 to answer questions. If you cannot do either of those, please post your questions on Piazza (especially if problem-set related!)
Have a good rest of the week and see you on
Thursday/Friday!

Office Hours for today Tuesday 12 Cancelled for Snow
Dear Students,Due to the heavy snowfall forecast for the late afternoon, the office hours for today will unfortunately be cancelled.
I will still hold regular office hours on Thursday 5-6 pm in E52-314.
If the time constraint is too binding on Thursday, I will try to save some time at the end of the recitation slots to answer further questions.
If you have very tormenting questions and you want an answer before Thursday (or you cannot make it at that time) please post it on piazza and you will get an answer the following day in the morning at the latest.
I hope this will not be too inconvenient!
Best,
Andrea

Recitation Notes posted and Office Hours
Dear students, thanks to all of you who attended the recitation section this morning.
I have just posted some notes that will help you navigate through the topics we looked at (and those we unfortunately did not manage to cover).
Given the time constraint, I was unable to cover all the material contained in the note I posted. As I said in class, do not hesitate to:
1. Ask on Piazza about unclear points (this maximizes the welfare of the class)
2. Come to my office hours: Tue 5p, Thu 6p, both in
E52-314.
I will be happy to answer to any doubts you might have, in addition
to covering more in detail constrained optimization and duality
which we covered very quickly/not at all depending on the section
this morning.
Best,
Andrea

Problem Set, Recitation on Friday, Logistics Slides posted
Welcome to 14.03!Please take time to review the following important announcements:
1. Please remember to **read the Card and Krueger (1994) paper for Monday 02/11**, you will find it in the readings section of the materials page.
2. Problem Set 1 has been posted and is due **Monday 2/18/19
@11:59pm**.
You will only be able to submit your solutions through the
**Gradescope** platform. You should have received an invitation to
your registered email address. If you have not, please add yourself
using the following code: 9WWNBJ. For any further issues, do not
hesitate to contact me.
3. We will have our **first Recitation on Friday in 2-143**.
There are two sections: 9-10a and 10-11a, you can choose which one
to attend. We will cover the math tools that we will use
extensively in the class. In particular:
unconstrained optimization, the implicit function theorem and
envelope theorem, and constrained optimization and duality.
4. Slides with additional logistics details (including weights attributed to each part to grading, midterm exam requirements and similar issues) have been posted on the materials page.
5. You should have received an invitation to **join the class page on Piazza**. Please take some time to log in and familiarize yourself with the platform if you have not already done so. It will be a very useful tool to discute problem sets and any sorts of theoretical/logistical doubts. If you have not received an invitation, please register yourselves at: piazza.com/mit/spring2019/140314003
Have a good rest of the week and see you on Friday!
