Typo correction for RSA Homework #1
Dear all,I've fixed a typo on RSA homework #1: the last paragraph of problem 2 should refer to examples 1, 3, and 4, not to examples 1, 2, and 4. The corrected PDF is now up on Stellar.

RSA homework #1 now up on Stellar
Dear Pragmatics in Linguistic Theory participants,Our first homework assignment of the semester is now up on Stellar: it is a set of practice problems for the Rational Speech Acts model that we covered on Friday 22 February. It is due on Monday, March 4.
Please work together in groups on this assignment, not individually! A major goal of our homework assignments is for you to find fellow seminar participants with complementary knowledge and expertise, and to learn from each other, especially across the range of programs represented in the seminar -- Linguistics, BCS, CSAIL, and more. You can use the Stellar forum to find fellow seminar participants, or just get in touch directly with others you know.

Intro to probability theory slides in Materials | General
Dear Pragmatics in Linguistic Theory participants,I put up some slides under Related Resources | General that I often use to teach basic probability theory in other contexts. They should be relatively self-contained. We won't be going over them during the main part of the seminar tomorrow, but if probability theory is new to you then you may find it beneficial to review them before tomorrow's class. You can also bring up questions about them during the 9am-9:30am tutorial period tomorrow morning.
Best & see you all tomorrow in 32-461D,
Roger

For next week (2/22): intro to Bayesian & game-theoretic pragmatics
Dear Pragmatics in Linguistic Theory participants,This week we ended at the end of Section 5 of the "Interactions between Syntax/Semantics and Pragmatics" handout. We will devote next week's class (2/22) to an introduction to Bayesian and game-theoretic pragmatics. Please read Frank et al. (2018) in preparation for this class; additionally, if you have time, we encourage you to read Jäger (2013). The next week (3/1) we will return to finish the "Interactions" handout and discuss Sauerland (2004). All these readings are available under "Materials" on the Stellar website. Let us know if you have trouble accessing them.
Best & have a great weekend all,
Roger & Danny
