Foundations of Western Culture I: Homer to Dante

Course Description

Civilization, nature, ritual, heroism, divinity, and more, as represented by the ancient Greeks and Romans in writings that founded the Western genres of epic, drama, and philosophy.

Authors include: Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Europides, Plato, Virgil, St. Augustine, and Dante. Biblical texts are sometimes included.
