A few points related to this week's class

1) To ensure all students have a fair amount of time to present their work, we will be allotting each presentation a total of 20 minutes. This will include the formal presentation and discussion, so please time your presentation accordingly.
We suggest 12-15 minutes for presentations.

2) Like last week, please upload your slides to Stellar. I have created an assignment for presentations ( 12_13 Presentation Slides). There is no deadline, just have them up before class.

3) Please bring your computers to class again on Friday. We will be asking you to complete the course evaluations at some point during class.

4) Lastly, Susan will be providing lunch on Friday (likely pizza and salad). Please let Ayn know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Logistics for tomorrow: Computers and Email Slides

Please upload your slides for tomorrow to Stellar. I have created an assignment for presentations for each of the 2 dates (slides_12/6 and slides_12/13). It will save us time if we can have all of the presentations running from one computer. There is no deadline, just have them up before class.

Also, please bring your computers to class tomorrow. We will be asking you to complete the course evaluations at some point during class.

Sample Slides

I know this is coming a bit late, but I have posted some slides from one of our presentations last year. Christine Riordin was nice enough to allow us to share her work. I hope it helps as you finalize your own presentations.

There are also sample NSF proposals on the site that you should reference as you are writing your final submission.

RSVP Needed

Hello:

I hope you are all making progress in your research design and presentations. In order to finalize with the caterer for the dinner Susan is hosting this Friday, December 6th at 7:00 pm, we need a count of who will be able to attend. If you have not yet responded, could you please RSVP to Ayn (acavicch@mit.edu) asap.

Dinner will be at Susan's home - 404 Beacon Street.

We hope you can make it!

Group assignment and presentation schedule

In preparation for the final presentations, we have assigned each of you to a peer group. As we discussed in class, you should work with the other members in your group to help work through any struggles you may be facing related to presenting your proposals (clarity of slides, framing of question etc.). This should not feel like an additional burden, but rather as an opportunity to really improve your work. To remind you, you will each have approximately 20 minutes. The actual presentation should run for approximately 12 minutes and the reaming time will allow you, as the presenter, to pose a question or two to the class related to something that you are looking for feedback on.

I have requested sample proposals and presentations from prior years and will post those as soon as they are available.

Below are the group assignments and the presentation schedule for each group. To be clear, you are all expected to attend both sessions.

Group 1 (presenting December 6):
Sam
Ankur
Hyejun

Group 2 (presenting December 6):
Minjae

Group 3 (presenting December 13):

Group 4 (presenting December 13):
