Final Grades

Dear Students,

You will be able to pick up your graded Exam 2, your graded project, and your final course grade from my assistant, Kevin Herwig (18-481) after 11 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday).

On your graded Exam 2 is a label with your points for all assignments and exams, including the project, as well as your final course grade. Please compare with your records and report any discrepancies to me immediately by email.

(Please note that the points for each PSet have been normalized such that the maximum for each PSet is 25 points, and rouded to the nearest units digit. Thus, total class points = 400.)

PSet #4

Dear Students,

Aaron has graded Problem set 4, and you may pick it up from him in 18-223. Please note his comment below about problem #5 on the problem set.

"One thing that you may wish to mention to the class has to do with problem #5. Many students incorrectly assigned the aromatic protons. (H8 (beta to the carbonyl) will be deshielded and H11 (beta to the N) will be shielded in the limiting resonance structures.)"

I have posted the solutions that Dr. Pan prepared for this problem set in the Assignments section of the Course Materials page.

Ruler or Straight Edge; Model Set

Dear Students,

I forgot to mention in class today that in addition to the one page of handwritten notes, you may also bring a ruler/straight edge (encouraged) and a molecular model set (probably not necessary, but some find it a useful tool in structure determination) to the exam.

Exam 2, Projects, Evaluations

Dear Students,

Last year's Exam 2 and the solutions have been posted in the Exams section of the Course Materials page.

As was the case last time, you may bring one (1) page (8.5" x 11", both sides) of handwritten notes to the exam on Friday.

Your presentations on Monday were excellent. I hope to have the write-ups graded by Friday.

On Wednesday (tomorrow) we will reserve the last 10 minutes or so for you to complete the evaluation form for the course.

2D NMR Spectra for C21H22N2O2

Dear Students,

A PowerPoint file with additional 2D NMR spectra (COSY from before, plus TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY) of our unknown (C₂₁H₂₂N₂O₂) have been posted in the Handouts section, as has the "Tips and Tricks for PowerPoint" handout from today.
