Course Evaluation Forms for the Writing Component of 22.09
Hello - Robert Doherty dropped off forms today that he needs everyone who has taken the course this semester to fill out. They are on the table outside my office, NW14-2209, clearly marked. Please drop by to get one. If you take a few minutes to fill it out while you're here, it will be much easier for everyone. There will be a separate envelope marked "completed writing survery forms" on the table also.
See you when you drop by
Rachel

Potentially Useful Information Regarding Your Presentations
I know that many of you are preparing for your oral presentations. As you prepare, it is important that you refer to the "Oral Presentation Guidelines" that were presented in class and are posted on Stellar.
On slide 2, the guidelines say that "some subtopics are more likely to succeed than others." (Even though you are all advanced undergraduate students or graduate students, and I like for you to give thought to these kinds of things and then come to me with questions, because of the tremendous impact a mistake in this area can have on your grade, I am just going to tell you in this case.) Several of the professors/graders have discussed the matter and concluded that presenting the Beta Lab will NOT "succeed." If you and your partner are planning to present aspects of the Beta Lab, then you can continue with your plans realizing that your potential for success will likely be lower than your peers, or you can talk with me and then change labs, or you can change labs (without talking with me), etc.
Next, it is important to recognize that slides 4 and 5 in the posted guidelines say that each individual presenter (not each lab group) will be graded on their Motivation and Theory, Experiment, Discussion and Conclusions, and Presentation Quality. If you (as an individual) present the Motivation and Theory and Experiment, and your partner presents the Discussion and Conclusions, then neither one of you will have an opportunity for a 100% (because your max score will be 80% for the M&T, E, and PQ sections, and your partner's max score will be 30% for the D&C, and PQ sections).
Please take the necessary time to prepare.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me, Prof. Ziskin, Phillip Dawson, etc.
Thanks,
Dwight

Dry Runs on Monday (4/23)
As you know, oral presentations will begin on April 30th. If you would like to bounce some ideas off of your classmates and your graders, please come prepared to do so on April 23rd (Monday). For those of who would like to practice in front of the class, please don't plan to talk for more that 5 minutes or so per person. (Even with that amount of time, we still cannot accommodate everyone in the class. Hopefully, there will be some who want to come and just observe.) Feel free to bring draft/incomplete slides if you have them. You might want to focus on the general topics that you plan to address in your real presentation (no real details unless you want to provide them at this point).
If you think that you might want to practice in from of the class on Monday, shoot me an e-mail so I can make sure we have enough time for everyone who wants to go.
If you have any questions/comment, just let me know.
Thanks,
Dwight
