Midterm Clarifications

I will be collecting your midterm answer booklet(s) AND the question sheet tomorrow at 4PM outside E51-345. Please bring BOTH.
For those of you who cannot make it at that time, please put your answer booklet(s) AND the question sheet in Prof. Welsch's mailbox BEFORE 4PM, just outside E62-564. You may ask the administrative assistant on that floor if you cannot find his mailbox.

In general, if you are making any extra assumption that is not in the question statement, you need to specify them on your answer booklet.
I do NOT recommend that you make too many extra assumptions.

Here are some specific clarifications on the midterm questions:
1 (b): use range = 4 to estimate sigma
1 (c)-(d): use 0.01 as the significance level
2: If you are assuming anything other than what has stated in the problem, e.g. normality, please clearly state those assumptions in your answer booklet. Also, some student asked what if the initial blood pressure is higher for the subjects in one group. This is not possibly to determine before conducting the experiment because the subjects are randomly assigned to the groups.
3 (c): you may use the standard deviations from 3 (b)
6: The definition of "Interaction" is on the first page of Lecture 16 slide
6 (a) (i): There is a typo, should be IQ not Q
7 (b)&(d): "test" here means using test data to compute RSS rather than using training data

Hi All,

Since the Professor had allowed the last two questions of Homework 4 to be due on next Monday, to avoid confusion. Please just submit the entire PSET 4 on next Moday by 11.59pm.
