Edit to Design Problem 4

There is a small (but important) change in the "Preliminary design criteria" section on page 5 of the Design Problem.  In the first bullet, it now reads "total deflection" rather than "bending deflection".
In addition, clarity is provided by adding the words "and floor" to "while the skins _______ are only effective" in the third bullet of "Preliminary assumptions".
This revised statement is now posted.

Assessment Exercise

As discussed in class today, the recitation of Tuesday, 2/11, will be devoted to the Assessment Exercise that has been posted.  This exercise is in the form of a number of "PRS-type questions" pertinent to Unified Engineering.  There are three major objectives to this exercise.  The first is to provide each student with a tool to assess their capability in the material from Unified Engineering that is built upon in 16.20.  Students can review and work with the teaching staff as necessary to help fill any gaps.  A second is to allow the staff o 16.20 to understand the overall background of the 16.20 Learning Community to better orient the lectures with regard to the material that is assumed as previously learned.  The third is to provide feedback to Unified teaching staff as to the retention of the material from the M&S portion of Unified.  Individual student results will not be compiled or recorded in any way with only the responses across the class on each question used in this regard.
