What to do for Tuesday 18th March

Hi,
we'll consider the later stories in The Bloody Chamber from Puss in Boots onwards.  I would like you to concentrate particularly on "Lady of the House of Love" and I'd also like to hear your ideas on the Margaret Atwood story, "Bluebeard's Egg" in Tatar (pp.156-78).

Topics for Fairy Tale Class Essay no.2

Hi,
I have posted to the Homework section of the Stellar site three topics for class essay no 2, due, at the latest,  midnight 21st March (but acceptable at any point before this time).  Since the 21st is the closing date of the Class and final scores have to be in shortly thereafter, requests for extensions will not be entertained.
The usual conventions apply: please submit your piece double spaced in Word format with a .docx extension as an email attachment and send to wdonald@mit.edu
Finally, I have also posted some more notes on Liz Lochhead to the materials section of the Stellar site.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get back to me.

What to do for Tuesday 11th March

Study and come prepared to discuss the poems in the "Grimm Sisters" sequence in Lochhead's Dreaming Frankenstein and Collected Poems.  You might like to think of differences from the Grimm Brothers' texts, the standpoint and tone of the Lochhead poems, and for signs of recurring themes or preoccupations.
Meantime, I have posted a set of notes on the early poetry to the Materials section of the Stellar site, based on an audio transcript from a talk I gave in Scotland some years ago.  Although she is eminent as a poet, this aspect of Liz Lochhead's oeuvre has been rather overshadowed by her work as a playwright (works include Blood and Ice and Mary Queen of Scots got her Head chopped off) and formal criticism of her poetry is  thin on the ground.
