Preparation for Tuesday, May 14

Finish your complete set of variations! I'll look at the finished score on Tuesday: There may be time for refinements and cosmetic changes, but there won't be time for substantial revisions. Later on Tuesday you will email pdf copies of your music to our pianist, Daesik Cha. If you have questions about your piece before Tueday feel free to email them to me.

We'll spend the balance of any time left over on Tuesday considering the Fourth Movement of Schubert's "Trout" Quintet, an impressive example of a Theme and Variations in a chamber music setting.

Preparation for Thursday, May 9

  • Complete the harmonization that we began in class today. If you'd like a clean copy to work on, it is Assignment 14
  • Be prepared to show new music for your Theme and Variations: Much of the class will be spent workshopping your pieces.
  • Deadline: The complete piece should be finished one week from today, so that Daesek Cha has an opportunity to look over your music before he plays it at our last class, May 16.
