Final Project Information and Logistics

Dear 2.086 Students:

We’re very close to the end of 2.086 now. The only graded component left is the final project written report. That is to be submitted on Stellar by 5PM on the last day of the term, Tuesday 12 MAY.

If you’d like the chance to show your work to your fellow students, you have a nice opportunity to do so next Monday during the scheduled lecture slot (12noon to 1PM). The “location” of the showcase event will be a main zoom room (mit.zoom.us/my/danfrey) and also a separate zoom room for every poster. The format will be a “virtual poster session”. At any given time least one member of your team will staff a zoom room where they can share their screen and show live scripts, slides, or whatever they wish to present. Everyone who is not currently presenting can wander around to the zoom rooms and watch presentations and ask questions. For students who are on individual projects, I propose to establish a time slot when you will be at your zoom room so that you have some free time to look at other students’ work.

SOME INFORMATION:
* The session will be 12:05 to 12:55 on Monday May 11.

* Participation is voluntary, both for presenting and for viewing, but is encouraged.

* The main location of the “virtual poster session” will be
https://mit.zoom.us/my/danfrey
The primary purpose of the main room is that people can go there and talk about what they have seen and meet up to go visit poster zoom rooms. Also, we will provide virtual coffee and cookies at the main room.

* By Sunday at 9PM, we need to know if your team will present a poster so that we can create the corresponding zoom meeting. By Monday morning, an announcement will go out by email with all the zoom links and the corresponding titles of your posters. Please email danfrey@mit.edu so that he can set it up for you.

* If you’re on a team project (two or more people) please work out your own schedule for staffing your zoom room for the entire 50 minutes. Make some equitable arrangement so everyone can take a look around and so that your project is always visible for Q&A.

* If you’re on an individual project and choose to present, we will pick a 15 minute time slot within the 50 minute window and we’ll publish that.

* Please ask questions and make comments, but also use some reasonable etiquette such as raising your hand to get a turn to speak. Either the little blue hand symbol in zoom or your actual hand would be fine. The presenter can manage the queue.

Wish you all the best of luck finishing up the course 2.086.

Exam 2 Information and Logistics

Dear 2.086 Students;

The Exam 2 file will become available to you around 7:25pm tomorrow/Thursday (May 7) on Stellar. There will be 6 problems (excluding problem 1, the trivial file-renaming task) in this exam and you will have 2 hours (until 9:30pm) to submit your exam file on Stellar.

USEFUL INFORMATION:
1. If you have a question during this exam, please join the following zoom session and “Raise Your Hand”:
https://mit.zoom.us/my/danfrey
(Please make sure to keep your MIC MUTED until you are taken to a break-room with a staff.)

2. If you need to post a comment on zoom, please make sure to direct it to the staff only and avoid broadcasting it to the whole class!

3. If due to any reason you cannot join the above zoom session, you can submit your questions “PRIVATELY” on Piazza.

LOGISTICAL SUGGESTIONS:
- To fully refresh your computer memory, you are encouraged to Re-Start and/or Power-Cycle your laptop before starting your exam.

- Make sure to suppress your MATLAB outputs using “;” unless you really need to see an output.

- You might find “Clear All Output” option from the Right-Clicked menu useful if/when you find your laptop sluggish.

- Save your file regularly during the exam to avoid any potential loss of your work.

Wish you all the best of luck in your exam.

Reminder of Exam #2

Dear 2.086 students:

This is a gentle reminder that we have exam #2 later this week. On Thursday from 7:30PM to 9:30PM Eastern Standard Time most of you will take the exam from where ever you happen to be. The logistics are fairly simple:
* By 7:25PM you can download the exam from Gradebook in Stellar
* Change the file name and sign the statement about taking the exam yourself without help from others
* If you have questions about what the questions are asking, come to the zoom room mit.zoom.us/my/danfrey
* By the end time, post your .mlx file to Stellar
