Final Letter Grades

Dear students,

We put the final letter grades for 6.0001 on the website here. We will submit these to the registrar in about a week. Due to the circumstances surrounding this semester -- no PS5 and no final exam -- we would support a late drop form for 6.0001 if anyone wishes to do so.

Take care and have a good rest of semester.

Check off for PS 4

Given the mass chaos, many of you were unable to get check offs for PS 4.  Don't worry about it.  We will give full credit to everyone in the class for that checkoff.

Finishing up 6.0001

Dear 6.0001 Students,

As many of you know, MIT has now issued special rules relating to grades and assignments for the current term. These rules were designed to serve the best interests of MIT's students. A lot of careful thought went into them.

Some of these new rules are inconsistent with how we had planned to handle 6.0001. This is unfortunate, but not surprising given how rapidly things are evolving.

1) The rules do not permit H3 subjects to accept assignments that were handed in after March 13. Since we extended the deadline for PS 5 to after that date, we feel that the fairest thing is to cancel PS 5. We know that this might be disappointing to those of you who have already spent time on it. Sorry.

2) Our plan to have an opt-in final is no longer permitted for H3 subjects, so there will be no final.

3) We have been given a choice of giving letter grades or making 6.0001 P/F. We have decided to assign letter grades, and to be generous in choosing them. The grades will be based on the finger exercises (10%), PS 1-4 (45%), and the best two micro quizzes (45%). We anticipate that the vast majority of students will receive an A or B.

Take care of yourselves,
6.0001 Staff

Plans going forward

We hope everyone is doing well during these challenging times.

We have some quick announcements regarding the end of 6.0001.

1) We will have office hours tomorrow available at the regular time, but online.
2) There will be NO office hours next week or during spring break.
3) We will NOT be monitoring the forum next week or during spring break.
4) We understand that many of you, like many of the TA's and LA's,  are under a lot of pressure right now. please email the staff with urgent matters. We want to help.
5) If you are continuing on with 6.0002, a separate announcement will be sent. We are still waiting for clarification from MIT about what will and what will not be possible.

Take care of yourselves--both phyically and mentally.
