Hello again. SECOND MAILING, Duke Internet Programming Contest Files: README (this file) Participants problems92.tex problems92.txt (text version of LaTeX file) Check out the list of participating sites. It's a big field, folks! Note that the contest will start promptly at 6pm Eastern time, which is 2300 GMT November 18, 1993. Starting one hour before the contest, please have each team at your site run the "register" script. They will receive their team number in return. They should have a printed copy of the problems, but of course should not peek at them until the start of the contest. We suggest handing out the problems as close to the start time of the contest as possible. Start the contest when *your* computer's clock reads exactly 2300 GMT. They will receive an official start message shortly thereafter, confirming that the contest has begun. You do not need to wait for this message to begin. We assume that your clock is reasonably close to the actual time; our clocks are synchronized with the world using the NTP protocol. The problem descriptions are in LaTeX format. If you have any trouble handling this, we can send you PostScript. Please do what you can to work with the LaTeX. Let us know if you have trouble. Those of you that previously arranged for PostScript will receive the problem set in another message shortly. Even if you decide not to compete, please do not show the problem set to anyone (ANYONE) until the contest is over (0200 GMT, November 19, 1993). After the contest, we plan to post the questions (and possibly our solutions), along with the results, to all of you and to all the appropriate newsgroups. Those of you who are also participating, please do not look at the problem set or the cover page until the designated time. We are distributing the problems early in an effort to avoid network delays and printing problems interfering in the start of the contest. The LaTeX printout should contain 17 pages, the text file should print out to 25 pages. Owen Astrachan ola@cs.duke.edu Vick Khera khera@cs.duke.edu
