Running newer versions of LaTeX

The supported version of LaTeX on Athena is currently 2.09, but there are usually seperate installations of newer versions available. Currently, (LaTeX ) is available in the newtex locker. You can access it by:

add newtex
latex2e filename.tex

at the athena% prompt. In general, you can access the new version of LaTeX by default via the commands:

add -f -e newtex
latex filename.tex

In both cases, the ``add'' line may be placed in the .environment file. These versions of LaTeX are sometimes less stable than the default Athena version, and you may find that it takes longer for OLC to respond to questions about these versions, but they are generally useable.
