Buying stuff.

Buying stuff.

The protocol for buying stuff is simple. First find good reasons why SIPB should purchace the item. Then convince SIPB members at a meeting and convince the head of IS that it's worthwhile. A vote will then be taken at the SIPB. If SIPB and IS approve of the purchase, then it can be made using an MIT requisition form.

Small purchases, such as money for making copies of an Inessential document, require only a SIPB vote.

If a purchase is made without prior approval, that purchase will be considered a personal purchase by the individual.

Requisitions.

Many supplies SIPB uses are ordered using requisitions. What you do is get the req book (talk to the Treasurer for the current location), take a look at some of the older filled reqs and imitate how it was done. For a req less than $200, get an officer to sign it. For a req more than $200, get an officer to initial the req and send mail to Jane and Lorraine saying that you are going to go over there to get them to sign it (Lorraine Rappaport, ljr@mit, e40-321; Jane Trull, janej@mit, e40-315). After you have gone there, you can spend the money.
