Chairman's Report: vice chair concurs that Julie is not leading the meeting. There are no elections tonight. The vice chair is on a power trip. warlord nominates slippery for membership in the sipb. Office Report: The office is here and warm. marc needs to talk to Jim Bruce about the air conditioning. the machines are labelled now. (Thanks, Rhu!) Where are the sipb toolbox and the sipb voltmeter and the sipb ruler? MIT Computing Report: A freshman was running around installing his own zhm on Athena machines. He was captured thanks to the "heroic efforts" of mhpower, ckclark, eichin, and raeburn. The user's name (and password) are known to many sipb members. His zhm allowed him to use zephyr to run any command as root on any Athena machine running his hack. His username is not public knowledge, however. (As a side note, he had never, ever asked an olc question.) He was caught "quite" redhanded. Poetic justice: his own hack was used to undo all of the changes he made. Project Athena has no reputation. Weird power things happened in W20 on Sun at 5:30pm. Big, strange power bounce. All of the sipb machines in the machine room were hit. No serious damage. DCNS task force meeting tomorrow and sipb members are invited. See the mail which was forwarded to sipb. The PS/2 project has been canned. Barr3y doesn't have anything else. Computer Services: jik installed a new shell called "zsh" in the sipb locker today. It has _nothing_ to do with zephyr. It is a bourne shell inplementation with lots of extras. Move to rename a vs2 to one-third-a-computer. The lpd for lw-sipb is running on binkley now. It should be moved back to snork. ronald-ann is now providing time service. We might want to consider backing up the sipb afs cell more than once a week. Updating the backup software would be the "right" solution. Publications Report: We have publications. R/O Report: Save HowToGAMIT!!!! They need an editor sort of. Talk to Rhu. Also, they need aid to do just about everything else, too. IAP Report: That's a long way away. CokeComm Report: We have Coke and the soda jerk is here. We have Poland Spring Yuppee Water now. It costs the same as juice. The American Dry Root Beer is really bad. We shouldn't buy it again.
