EXTD=(P)1988 Delta Music Inc. LaserLight 15 801\n\nThe phenomenal earl
EXTD=y musical talent of\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)\nwas purp
EXTD=osefully fostered by his father\nLeopold Mozart, the Salzburg\ncon
EXTD=certmaster and later Vice\nKapellmeister.  Leopold was a highly\ne
EXTD=ducated man and an adherent of the\nideals of the Enlightenment.
EXTD= As early as\n1762 he embarked on artistic journeys to\nMunich and
EXTD= Vienna with Wolfgang and his\nsister Maria Anna (Nannerl), who w
EXTD=as five\nyears older. Wolfgang was showcased\nnot only as a piani
EXTD=st and violinist child\nprodigy but also as a brilliant young\ncom
EXTD=poser. In the following years, Leopold\nMozart took his son on e
EXTD=ducational and\nartistic journeys to Germany, England,\nFrance, an
EXTD=d repeatedly to Italy,\npersonally tutoring his son in every\nsubj
EXTD=ect. These trips had the inestimable\nbenefit of acquainting the
EXTD= boy with the\nideas and musical trends of the time,\ndirectly and
EXTD= at the source. But the\nphysical and psychological overeverexer
EXTD=tion\nand the several severe illnesses Wolfgang\nsuffered during t
EXTD=hese journeys in mail\ncoaches were part of the reason for his\nea
EXTD=rly death. At the age of thirteen,\nWolfgang was appointed conce
EXTD=rtmaster\nof the prince archbishop's orchestra in\nSalzburg.  By t
EXTD=hat time he easily\ncommanded the art of composition, as he\ndemon
EXTD=strated in his masses, operas,\nstring quartets and other works.
EXTD= The\narchbishop, Count Colloredo, regarded\nMozart as a musical l
EXTD=ackey, and the\nsixteen-year-old came to feel increasingly\nconstr
EXTD=ained by his working conditions in\nSalzburg. Hopes of an appoin
EXTD=tment in\nother cities (Paris and Mannheim) come\nto naught. Fina
EXTD=lly, the success of his\nopera "Idomeneo" in Munich (in 1781)\ngav
EXTD=e Mozart the courage to break with\nhis Salzburg employer. Movin
EXTD=g to Vienna,\nhe became the first "Freelance artist" in\nmusic his
EXTD=tory. Mozart organized concerts\nat his own risk ("musical acade
EXTD=mies")\nand earned money from commissioned\nworks and from the pia
EXTD=no lessons he\ngave to children of the nobility. These\nsuccesses
EXTD= enabled him to live in comfort\nduring his first six years in Vi
EXTD=enna. The\nlast four years of his life, however, were\novershadow
EXTD=ed by financial straits. Mozart\nwas buried in a pauper's grave.
